Gender: Male Species: Human (witch) PB: Gackt Camui Character Age and DOB: 35 // April 2, 1999 Complete Character Description: Ken is a relatively tall, slender man who looks far younger than his years. His skin is smooth and fairly pale for someone of Japanese descent, his eyes are naturally a dark brown, though he has often changed their color with contact lenses. His hair, too, is dark, worn longish more often than not, though he often dyes it to be bright red, blond, auburn, and whatever else strikes his fancy at any given time. The biggest thing about him is that he changes things about his appearance all the time. His clothing goes all over the spectrum, from jeans and a t-shirt to leather pants and no shirt, and really, just anything he can find that is relatively clean, stylish, and which he thinks looks good at him. Practicality, too, is important, since he still likes to be physically active, and if it makes sense to be naked, or to wear a ratty old pair of sweats, he'll do it. He prefers to look good, though, as much as he can, since new clothing is sort of hard to come by. He stands at around 5'10, and he may be slender, but his love of sports and physical activity has made him muscular as well. He doesn't exactly work out, not at a gym, and wouldn't even should such a thing be available, but he simply enjoys being active. He is not tiny, or delicate, not in the way he acts or in the way he looks. Personality: Ken is competitive, physically active, friendly and fairly laid back, most of the time. However, he also has a bit of a temper, which while he tries to keep it in check, sometimes he has a hard time with that and then he screams and yells a lot. As he has gotten older, of course, he's gotten better at controlling that temper, but it still bursts out at times. He is genuinely passionate about the Resistence, and helps in any way he can, both by using his magic and simply by spying, or whatever else he finds that he can be useful doing. He hates all vampires, doesn't trust even the Dilectu who help the humans, and even lycans aren't high on his list of things that he likes. Really, in his opinion, the world was doing just fine when humans ran it and the lycans and vampires stayed out of sight, and it would be better for everyone if that happened again. However, there are vampires that are helping, and while Ken still hates and distrusts them, he is smart enough to know that the humans, massively outnumbered and outpowered, do need the help. So he will work with them, but he is always ready for betrayal, and always, actually, pretty much expecting that it will happen at any time. He will always prefer to work with other humans, too, if it's possible. Background: Ken has seen many different things in his life. When he was born, there was some global warming, but people were still in denial about it, and continued on in that way until it was impossible to continue to do so. So, for much of his life, he had a fairly normal upbringing, and any indications that he had that things would ever change were easily ignored, at least for quite some time. A middle child, and the only boy, Ken grew up in a fairly normal North American upper middle class way. Born in Toronto, his parents were both of Japanese descent, but they, too, were born in Canada. When it came to Ken and his sisters, they were no different than any of the other kids around, in terms of culture. Ken knows very little about Japanese tradition, as the result of a conscious decision on the part of his parents not to force it on him, as it was forced on them. So Ken grew up, and from a very young age, he was an incredibly active child. He discovered a love of ice hockey, and became involved in the sport when he was a child. He basically ate, slept, and breathed hockey, as did all of his friends. Their idea of a fun time was to practice, or, if not that, to watch Maple Leafs games obsessively. Oh, all of the boys enjoyed other sports, too, but hockey was definitely special. It was almost as an afterthought that Ken began to study magic. Sports were his life, but his family on his father's side had a history of being witches, a term which Ken found to be a bit annoying and far too feminine. But it was the best description for what he did, affecting small amounts of water with his spells, even healing small wounds and creating protective enchantments. Still, it was really more of a hobby to him, a way to please his parents, than anything else. At puberty, he began to have the ability to actually make the spells work. However, though the boy had never expected it, things did begin to change. By the time Ken had reached high school, the climate change had started to happen, and in a way that couldn't so easily be ignored. Now, as young as he was, he didn't really understand what was going on, but even he could tell things were getting worse. And that was before the meteor hit. In one fell swoop, pretty much everyone he cared about, his family, his sisters, was gone. Some of his friends had survived, and they banded together. Now Ken, unlike most of his friends, had been taught about lycans and vampires, so it wasn't as much of a surprise to him when they came out from hiding, and his magic, which he'd always pretty much seen as boring and pointless, became crucial to the survival of his small group of humans. It wasn't too long, about five years or so, before he heard about Las Vegas, and how a powerful group of Vampires, the Sanguine, had taken over from the lycan pack who had controlled it previously. He also heard that they were taking slaves, and such a thing bothered him deeply. Now a young man, he headed down to see what could be done. Already, when he got there, there was a fledgling resistence movement, and he immediately joined up. Ever since, he has been there, using his magic to keep humans as safe as he can, and he has no plans to go anywhere else until Vegas is no longer Sanguine controlled. Strengths: Survival instinct, physically healthy and fit, and of coure, his magic. Weaknesses: Other than being a human, which means he's weaker than most of the people around, he can be a bit rash at times, he has a temper, even if it is largely controlled, and besides that, he is a bit of bigot when it comes to anyone but other humans. Abilities Due to Species: Ken is a human, so no special abilities due to race, but he does have his magic. Talents and Hobbies: Sports. Any sports. Hockey is his first love, of course, but he will play anything and really do anything that involves him getting hot and sweaty. Also, he has his magic, which requires a spellbook and rituals to cast, but is quite effective for the limited things on which it can be used. Magical abilities: Ken's main focus is healing. He can completely cure small wounds very easily, and bigger ones, he can speed their healing and prevent infection. He also has an affinity for the element of Water, and has some control over it. He can draw water from the air and earth, freeze small amounts of water, create a mist that can be used to put out fires. He can also create protective barriers of sorts, but they are stationary and can't effectively be cast around a person, just a place. Family and Friends: Ken had a family, two sisters and his parents, but they were all killed when the meteor struck, or shortly thereafter by hungry vampires and lycans. The resistence has become his family and friends now, and it wouldn't really occur to him to go outside that family to make friends. The only exceptions are those slaves who have been captured but were once members of the resistence, he wants them back desperately. Hotel or Location of Character: Ken lives in the dam, but he's been granted his own room. He's been there for eight years, since shortly after the Sanguine arrived. Job/Duty/Position: Witch - Ken does all he can to support the cause he believes in, and has no set job. He has his magic, of course, and uses it as much as he can, but he isn't beneath doing anything to free humans from vampire control.
